Project Support under the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Cross-Border Cooperation Programme to Prof. Dr. Hacer SAĞLAM

The project, titled "Raising Awareness for the Black Sea People to Recognise and Protect Black Sea Biodiversity – BSB00794-BIOBLACK", has been selected for funding. Prof. Dr. Hacer SAĞLAM represents KTÜ as the project lead.

The BIOBLACK project, which will run for 18 months with a total budget of €425,166.00 (of which €220,290.00 is allocated to KTÜ), involves international collaboration with the Institute of Fish Resources (Bulgaria) and Mare Nostrum (Romania).

The project's main objective is to promote the protection of Black Sea biodiversity by raising awareness among the public and key stakeholders. Through educational outreach and technological tools—including 3D models of aquatic species, tailored educational materials, and an interactive mobile application (BLACKPYRAMID)—the project will introduce local, invasive, and endangered Black Sea species to audiences in Turkey, Bulgaria, and Romania. The project aims to develop effective biodiversity protection strategies by encouraging public engagement and fostering regional cooperation.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Dr. Hacer SAĞLAM and the entire project team, and we wish them continued success in their important work.
