International Project Led by KTÜ Receives Funding Support

The project titled “Raising Awareness for the Black Sea People to Recognize and Protect Black Sea Biodiversity (BIOBLACK) – BSB00794”, in which Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) is the lead institution and represented by our department academic staff member Prof. Dr. Hacer Sağlam, has been awarded funding under the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme.

The project aims to promote awareness and protection of Black Sea biodiversity. It will introduce local, invasive, and endangered species of the Black Sea to all relevant stakeholders in Turkey, Bulgaria, and Romania. Through 3D aquatic organism visuals, educational materials, and the BLACKPYRAMID mobile application, public engagement in biodiversity conservation will be encouraged. In addition, protective measures will be developed through local and international cooperation.

Coordinated by KTU, the BIOBLACK project once again highlights the university’s active role in international collaboration and its contribution to environmental sustainability in the Black Sea region.
